VLN Fully Supported Summer School Programs
VLN’s support includes progress monitoring, full student grade reporting as well as “Get Help from a Teacher” asynchronous threaded discussion support, and grading support for student essays, homework, and portfolio assignments.
VLN Summer School courses are designed specifically for use in the condensed summer school timeframe/format. The session duration can be defined from 4 weeks to 6 weeks depending on specific program requirements.
Courses are delivered asynchronously in a 30-MOD structure, which can be facilitated in numerous timeframes and delivery styles. Each course login includes curriculum, course textbooks, structured assessments, and a range of live teacher support. VLN summer school programs are flexible and can be used for on-site students, remote learners, or hybrid learner.
Program Flexibility
Schools can require completion of all course sections or enable pre-tests that allow students to “test out” when mastery is demonstrated. This enables students to focus their efforts on the curriculum areas where they need to grow their understanding.
Daily tasks for all courses include a reading assignment, writing assessment, and a ten-question multiple-choice quiz. In addition, a five-question short answer assignment is presented each week to maintain critical writing skills. These written assessments help students gain true mastery for the material and enhance the authentic assessment for the course. Each course culminates in a final exam, including twenty multiple-choice questions and five short-answer questions.
School Supported Summer School Programs
Optionally, VLN’s summer school programs can also be supported by a school’s local teachers. Using School Supported Logins, schools in VLN’s network can utilize any of the courses in the VLN Essentials course catalog, as well as customized courses. Multiple courses are permitted for each student/login. In this model, all grading and support will be provided by the school, and VLN will provide training, as needed. In addition, like VLN supported summer school programs, schools may define the program duration to meet their specific program requirements.
